Light-weight Steelframe - Construction Excellence!

The Master Builders KwaZulu-Natal Excellence, through their Construction programme is recognizing and acknowledging excellence in building and construction in our province.
Shospec Pty Ltd won the 2011 single residential construction award with the construction of the house of owner Bjorn Kahler. Global Specialised Systems supplied the Fibercement and OSB boards as external wall cladding; the 102mm Fibreglass Insulation in the wall cavity; and 15mm Gypsum board as internal partitioning for this project.
From beginning to end, the +- 500sqm home with high quality finishes, took just 5 months to complete. Furthermore the system is SABS approved and the structure has met with NHBRC standards.
The structure is 30% more energy efficient than it would have been, had it been built using brick. Materials used retain significantly less heat than brick and concrete, considerably reducing the need for air conditioning. During the construction phase there was minimal site waste and transport requirements are considerably less. In addition, a number of green building innovations were adapted, including a grey water system, thermal insulation, 10 skylights, glass frontage to maximize natural light and airflow, a solar geyser, as well as a rain harvesting system.
Global Specialised Systems (KZN) (Pty) Ltd is as passionate about alternative building methods as Bjorn as expressed through us partnering in promoting light steel framing systems in KZN. Together we fully subscribe to the need for energy efficient, resource efficient and environmentally responsible building alternatives.
Global Specialised Systems (KZN) congratulates Bjorn on this achievement and are proud to be associated with Shospec Pty Ltd and the company’s drive to save our planet through energy efficient and sustainable construction methods.
